Africa-Press – Kenya. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced the start of the nomination process for aspirants seeking to contest in the upcoming by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025.
In a notice signed by the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) Chairperson, Emily Awita, the party called on interested applicants from select electoral areas to submit their applications at the ODM headquarters, Chungwa House in Lavington, by 5:00 pm on Monday, September 8, 2025.
According to the notice, the by-elections follow vacancies declared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as captured in Gazette Notice No. 11160 of August 8, 2025.
The constituencies where positions for Members of the National Assembly have fallen vacant are Ugunja and Kasipul.
The Ugunja parliamentary seat fell vacant after former MP Opiyo Wandayi was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum in President Ruto’s cabinet reshuffle.
In Kasipul, the seat fell vacant following the tragic killing of MP Ongondo Were, who was shot dead on April 30 outside Parliament along Ngong Road, Nairobi.
At the county assembly level, the affected wards are Mumbuni North, Kisa East, Lake Zone, Nanaam, Chewani, Angata Nanyokie, Narok Town, Purko, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, Ekerenyo, and Kariobangi North.
Aspirants are required to apply using prescribed party forms, which can be obtained from Chungwa House or downloaded from the party’s official website, www.odm.co.ke.
ODM has also released the nomination fees. Male aspirants eyeing a National Assembly seat will pay Sh250,000, while women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will pay Sh125,000.
For county assembly seats, male aspirants will pay Sh50,000, while female aspirants, youth, and PWDs will pay Sh25,000.
“The National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) hereby gives notice to all interested applicants in the following electoral areas to submit applications, in the prescribed format, to the Party Headquarters at Chungwa House by 5:00 pm Monday, September 8, 2025,” the statement read.
The notice underscores ODM’s preparations to field candidates in the by-elections, which are expected to draw interest in the party’s strongholds as well as in competitive counties.
The announcement comes as the party seeks to consolidate its influence at both the national and county assembly levels ahead of the November polls. The NECC statement was dated September 1, 2025.
