Africa-Press – Kenya. Leaders have come out to condole with the family of former Cabinet Minister and veteran politician Dalmas Otieno who has passed on.

Family sources confirmed that Otieno passed away earlier on Sunday in a Nairobi hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness. He was 80 years old.

Otieno served as Rongo MP and held various ministerial positions under the Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki administrations.

President William Ruto has mourned his death saying Kenya has lost a visionary leader who served the nation with honour, integrity, and distinction.

Ruto said the former minister was sharp, progressive, and industrious; a statesman whose ideas and leadership will continue to shape generations.

“His passing is a great loss to our country. May God grant his family, friends and people of Rongo strength at this difficult time. Rest in Peace, Waziri Dalmas,” Ruto said.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi described the death of the former Minister as the loss of a remarkable leader.

Mudavadi said Dalmas was a statesman whose devotion to public service left a lasting mark on the nation.

“I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and relatives during this time of grief. Dalmas embodied diligence, integrity, and vision in public service. I had the privilege of serving with him in Cabinet, where I witnessed firsthand his unmatched commitment, discipline, and passion for the progress of our country,” Mudavadi said.

“His work ethic and sense of duty set an example for many of us in leadership. His legacy of service, humility, and patriotism will continue to inspire generations to come. I pray that the Almighty grants his family strength and peace during this difficult time, and may his soul rest in eternal serenity.”

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula described him a distinguished leader, seasoned legislator, and statesman whose contribution to Kenya’s political and socio-economic landscape will be fondly remembered.

“Otieno served the nation with unwavering dedication, both as a Cabinet Minister and a long-serving Member of Parliament. His calm demeanor, intellect, and ability to bridge divides made him a voice of reason and an example of principled leadership,” he said.

“On behalf of the National Assembly and indeed the Parliament fraternity, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Rongo Constituency, who for many years entrusted him with leadership. Kenya has lost a true son who dedicated his life to public service, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. May the Almighty God grant his family strength and comfort during this difficult time.”

The Law Society of Kenya Faith Odhiambo said she is saddened by news of the passing on of former Minister and Member of Parliament for Rongo.

Faith said he was a man of uncommon assertiveness who exemplified the role of leadership as a tool of service and not as a means to personal expediency.

“I extend my sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all the people he served and whose lives he touched with his gentle candour. May his soul rest in peace,” the LSK boss said.
