Africa-Press – Kenya. Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed claims suggesting that his party has handed over all Nairobi elective seats to the Democracy of Citizens Party (DCP), describing them as unfounded.
Speaking on Monday, Kalonzo said the narrative was being circulated to create the impression of divisions within emerging political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Stop with the claims that Wiper Party has left all the Nairobi seats to the Democracy of Citizens Party. Such narratives seem designed to create friction between myself and Rigathi Gachagua,” he said.
He added that cooperation with other parties does not equate to surrendering political ground. Wiper, he said, will continue engaging in negotiations from a position of integrity and mutual respect.
Kalonzo urged supporters to disregard rumours that could destabilise political unity, warning that similar attempts could intensify as the election season approaches.
On Sunday, speaking at a Thanksgiving service at P.C.E.A. Kariobangi North Berea Parish Church in Nairobi, DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua outlined his party’s ambitions in coalition with Wiper.
He stated that the coalition aims to secure the governorship, the senate, at least 16 out of 17 parliamentary seats, and 75 out of 85 ward seats in Nairobi in 2027.
“We have an agreement with the Wiper leader, who has previously supported ODM in Nairobi. The plan is for the Governor, Woman Representative, and Senator to be from DCP, while we aim, working with Wiper, to win at least 16 out of 17 parliamentary seats,” Gachagua said.
He also suggested that the coalition seek to challenge ODM’s current influence in Nairobi politics.
Currently, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and its Azimio coalition partners hold several key positions in Nairobi, while UDA Governor Johnson Sakaja occupies the county seat.
Edwin Sifuna and Esther Passaris hold the Senate and Woman Representative positions, respectively, under ODM.
Last week’s by-elections reflected continued competition between the parties.
UDA won the Baringo Senate seat and the Banisa, Mbeere North, and Malava constituencies, while ODM retained its seats in Ugunja, Kasipul, and Magarini.
