Mudavadi Urges Jurists to Uphold Moral Leadership

Africa-Press – Kenya. Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has called on members of the Western Jurists Forum (WJF) to take an active role in restoring moral values, strengthening institutions and uplifting communities, particularly the youth.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary praised the Western Jurists Forum for its rapid growth and its commitment to community upliftment through initiatives such as book drives, scholarships and pro bono legal services.

“The Western Jurists Forum stands as a beacon of excellence, uniting lawyers from our vibrant Western Region in a shared commitment to justice, community upliftment and socio-economic progress. Your achievements within the short period of your existence are commendable,” he said.

“In just seven years, the Western Jurists Forum has transcended the traditional confines of legal practice. You are no longer mere practitioners of the law; you have become architects of community transformation and steadfast pillars of selfless service. You have shattered the outdated notion that legal expertise is confined to profit-driven pursuits.”

Speaking during the 7th Annual Western Jurists Forum Dinner and Dance in Nairobi, Mudavadi said that, through initiatives like book drives for our schools, the Inderema Scholarship Fund supporting bright but disadvantaged children, and pro-bono legal aid for those in dire need, they have demonstrated that jurists are true partners in shaping the society’s collective destiny.

Mudavadi challenged the legal fraternity to champion societal morals at a time when Kenya faces increasing ethical crises, including gender-based violence, corruption and economic inequality.

He encouraged members of the Forum to pioneer new models of legal mentorship and community outreach, including teaching ethics in schools, expanding pro bono services and extending legal education to grassroots communities.

Such efforts, he said, would help cultivate a generation that views the law as a moral duty rather than merely a career.

Mudavadi warned that weak structures erode public trust and hinder national progress, he urged legal practitioners to play a central role in strengthening Kenya’s institutions through accountability, governance reforms and professional excellence.

On youth empowerment, the Prime Cabinet Secretary underscored the need for intentional mentorship, expansion of scholarship programmes and the integration of technology in legal aid to reach underserved communities.

He described young people as central to Kenya’s future and urged professionals to use their influence to bridge gaps and create opportunities.

Mudavadi further encouraged unity within the Western Jurists Forum, warning that divisions could weaken its moral and legal impact.

He called for strategic collaboration among members and between the Forum and government to drive meaningful change in the region.

“My office stands ready to engage and collaborate. Together, let us make lives better,” He added.

He congratulated newly appointed Senior Counsel, including Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Richard Omwela, Lumatete Muchai, Nelson Havi and Elisha Ongoya.

He noted that their elevation was a testament to mastery, integrity and dedication to the rule of law.

The PCS said the honour placed upon them a responsibility to demonstrate ethical leadership in their professional and community engagements.

Mudavadi also commended Alutalala Mukhwana, a co-founder of the Forum, on his appointment as a Commissioner of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), urging him to safeguard democratic processes and uphold transparency and accountability.
