Okallo Expects Kibera to Overcome Bullets Despite Injuries

Africa-Press – Kenya. Kibera Soccer Women head coach George Okallo is confident his side can spark a turnaround despite missing four key players in today’s FKF Women’s Premier League clash against Kenya Police Bullets.

Faith Mboya, Lucy Kisaga, Maximilla Robi and Cynthia Atieno are sidelined with injuries, while Essie Akida is ruled out as she is yet to be cleared by the Football Kenya Federation. Monica Nakamu adds to the list owing to illness.

With limited options across defence and midfield, Okallo insists their performance has been better than the results as his team prepares to host the league contenders at Marist University, Karen, starting at 1 pm.

They came off a 3-1 defeat to Bungoma Queens and played out to a goalless draw away to Vihiga Queens last weekend. Okallo believes the squad remains strong despite a difficult run, maintaining that a breakthrough is long overdue. He said, “Wednesday (today) will mark the change from our poor performance despite having key players out.”

He added that the team has embraced the situation, aware that they “have no choice but to roll with the punches,” even as they continue to dominate matches without scoring.

The Kibera bench cited finishing as the key area needing improvement, and Okallo admitted that while results have gone against them, the underlying play has been encouraging.

The midweek encounter at Marist University offers Kibera Soccer Women a chance to reset when they face Bullets. Okallo’s charges are seeking to respond to last weekend’s loss to Bungoma Queens and make a statement against Bullets, who shared spoils with Vihiga Queens.

Despite the injuries, Okallo hinted at tactical adjustments and confirmed they are hopeful as he leans on squad depth and versatility.

He draws confidence from earlier results against strong opposition, arguing that past victories over sides such as Ulinzi, Kayole and Trinity Starlets show Kibera can compete with teams at the top end of the table.

Kenya Police Bullets, on the other hand, arrive in Karen buoyed by their defensive solidity after holding Vihiga Queens to a scoreless draw, a result that has kept them among the league’s pacesetters.
