Africa-Press – Kenya. William Ruto Thursday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo at their Gigiri home in Nairobi County.

Ruto who was accompanied by some senior government officials hailed the former minister and businessman as a close friend and a towering figure in Kenya’s political and economic life.

He described him as a bold, energetic and visionary leader whose contributions spanned politics, entrepreneurship and public service.

He also offered words of comfort to the bereaved family, urging them to draw strength from faith during the difficult period.

He quoted Psalm 46:1, reminding mourners of God’s sustaining presence in times of sorrow: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

He was received at the home by former MPs Fred Gumo, George Khaniri among several others and family members. Jirongo passed away December 13, 2025 following a fatal road traffic accident on the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway near Naivasha. He died at the scene after his vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a passenger bus.

The family burial committee has announced that he will be laid to rest on December 30, 2025 at his family home in Lumakanda, Kakamega County, where he will be buried next to his late parents. Postmortem report revealed that he died after sustaining fatal blunt force trauma following a road traffic accident.
