The Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) has now shifted their focus to this weekend’s National Super League showdown against Mwatate United after failing to close the gap on leaders Migori Youth.MOFA, coached by Charles Warinda, battled to a 1-1 draw at Moi Stadium, Kisumu, in a Nyanza derby against Kisumu All Stars on Wednesday.
Coach Warinda said, “I appreciate the effort of the boys. We must now regroup for another challenging outing against Mwatate United away in Taita Taveta on Sunday.”
Mwatate are bottom of the log, winless in four games under coach Evans Mafuta. They lost 3-0 against Mombasa United on Wednesday.
Commenting on the game against his former side, Warinda said: “We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. We prepared well for the game. Our opponents made it difficult in the opening minutes by being aggressive in pressing, which made us adjust our systems that led to our goal.”
“We would have buried the game, but Laban Otieno missed an open chance. We paid for this when our opponents equalised just before the break. In the second half, we enjoyed more moments with the ball, but we wouldn’t find the back of the net.”
MOFA dropped to fourth with 24 points same as third-placed 3K FC, while Mombasa United moved back to second with 25 points. Migori lead with 29 points despite their 1-0 defeat at the hands of a resurgent Kibera Black Stars.
Elsewhere, Gucha Stars recorded their first away win after edging out stuttering Naivas 1-0. Nigerian import Umar Iliayasu scored the all-important goal for the visitors while Equity Bank condemned Darajani Gogo to their second consecutive loss after a 2-0 victory. Luanda Villa battled to a barren draw against Nzoia Sugar.
