Africa-Press – Kenya. Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Soipan Tuya has extended her heartfelt appreciation to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel serving overseas, acknowledging their commitment and sacrifice as the festive season approaches.

Accompanied by Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter, CS Tuya visited KDF troops deployed under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM) in Kismayo, Somalia.

The visit aimed at reinforcing government support, and to honour soldiers serving far from home during a period traditionally reserved for family gatherings.

In her message, CS Tuya emphasised the critical role the KDF plays in advancing regional stability and supporting peace efforts.

“The discipline, bravery, and unwavering commitment of our soldiers do not go unnoticed. Your service exemplifies the values of responsibility, service, and solidarity that define the Kenya Defence Forces,” she said.

The CS highlighted that the AUSSOM mission extends beyond security, encompassing humanitarian initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of communities affected by conflict.

Kenyan troops, she noted, contribute significantly to the broader peace and stabilisation efforts across the region, often under challenging and risky conditions.

CS Tuya also acknowledged the families of deployed soldiers, recognising their resilience and sacrifice.

“My visit is in solidarity, and to express deep gratitude to the men and women serving far from home and to their families who bear the weight of sacrifice with resilience and grace,” she said.

The Defence ministry also expressed gratitude to its regional and international partners, emphasising that shared cooperation are key to the mission’s success.

She urged regional and international partners to continue their collaboration in support of peace and stability missions, highlighting that cooperation and shared purpose remain central to effective operations.

“We extend our profound appreciation to our regional and international allies whose steadfast partnership strengthens this mission,” she stated.

The CS underscored the importance of support systems for soldiers’ welfare, safety, and well-being, reaffirming the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to ensuring their needs are met.

The festive message carried a note of solidarity, reminding troops that their nation values their dedication.

“At the Ministry of Defence, their welfare, safety, and well-being remain our highest priority,” she concluded.

The KDF’s mandate, as outlined under Kenyan law, includes defending the country, participating in peacekeeping missions, and supporting regional stability through collaborations such as AUSSOM.

Deployments abroad act as a demonstration of Kenya’s commitment to continental security and a testament to the professionalism and courage of its armed forces.

The visit, which included interaction with troops and discussions on operational needs, reaffirmed the cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and KDF personnel.
