Africa-Press – Kenya. The Kenya Meteorological Department has urged residents in different parts of the country to brace for more rain and showers over the weekend.
In its weekly forecast, the department noted that major towns, including Kisumu, Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, and Meru will experience rain and showers between Friday, December 26, and Monday, December 29.
Strong southeasterly winds of 25 knots are set to hit Marsabit County in the next five days, according to the department.
“Occasional rainfall is expected over the southern half of the country. Rainfall intensity is likely to increase as the forecast period progresses. Strong southeasterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s), are anticipated over Marsabit counties,” the department stated.
Residents in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties can expect cloudy skies with light rain interspersed with sunny intervals in the morning over the next five days.
Showers are likely to hit these areas during the afternoon and night, according to the weatherman. The maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 29 °C, with a minimum of 05°C.
Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland areas of Tana River County, will also experience the same conditions as the aforementioned areas in the next five days, according to the forecast.
The maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 32°C, while the minimum will be 13°C.
Showers are expected in Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as coastal parts of Tana River County, for most of the week, apart from Friday and Saturday morning and afternoon.
These counties are expected to record maximum temperatures of 34°C and minimum temperatures of 23°C.
According to the department, rains and showers are likely to hit Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties both during the day and night.
During this period, the maximum temperatures in these counties are expected to reach 32°C, while the minimum will be 07°C.
Daylong sunny intervals will be experienced in Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties during this period.
The maximum temperature in these regions will be 37°C, while the minimums are set to be 16°C.
According to the weatherman, Turkana and Samburu counties are set to experience sunny conditions during the day and cloudy, partly cloudy conditions during the night. The forecast predicts maximum temperatures of 37°C and minimum temperatures of 16°C in these counties.
