Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenyans ushered in the New Year with colourful celebrations, prayers and renewed optimism, as families, friends and communities across the country marked the transition with joy and reflection.
From major cities to rural villages, the night of December 31 was alive with song, fireworks and thanksgiving services.
In Nairobi, crowds gathered in homes, churches and entertainment spots, counting down to midnight as the skyline lit up with fireworks and cheers.
Similar scenes were witnessed in Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret and Nyeri, where residents welcomed the New Year with music, dance and cultural performances.
Churches across denominations held overnight prayers and crossover services, with religious leaders urging Kenyans to embrace unity, hard work and peace in the year ahead.
Many sermons focused on gratitude for the year gone by and hope for better economic opportunities, national cohesion and personal growth in the coming months.
In coastal towns, residents and tourists flocked to beaches to watch fireworks displays over the Indian Ocean, while hotels hosted New Year galas and family-friendly events.
In upcountry areas, the celebrations were more modest, with families sharing meals, exchanging goodwill messages and reflecting on lessons from the past year.
Security agencies were deployed in major towns and along highways to ensure safety during the celebrations. Police mounted roadblocks and patrols, urging motorists to observe traffic rules as revelers traveled to and from celebration venues.
Health officials also reminded the public to celebrate responsibly.
For some, the New Year marked a fresh start, with resolutions centred on education, business growth and family well-being.
Despite the challenges of the past year, the mood across the country was one of resilience and faith.
As one year closed and another began, Kenyans stood united in hope, welcoming the New Year with prayers for prosperity, stability and shared progress.
President William Ruto and his Deputy Kithure welcomed the new year at the Eldoret State Lodge.
Fireworks were set to be displayed to officially mark the new year. Earlier on, Ruto delivered a state of the nation address from the State Lodge.
