Ruto Urges Uzima Graduates to Rely on Faith Hard Work

Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has challenged graduates of Uzima University to anchor their careers on faith, self-belief, and hard work, describing the three values as the greatest equaliser in life.

Speaking during the university’s 5th graduation ceremony in Kisumu County on Friday, the president said personal discipline and conviction, rather than background or privilege, determine long-term success.

Ruto told the graduands that he did not inherit wealth, status, or advantage but was shaped by values instilled in him by his parents, which enabled him to overcome obstacles and rise to national leadership.

“Faith gave me purpose, belief in myself shaped my response to challenges, and hard work opened doors that once seemed firmly shut,” he said.

He said many people are limited not by lack of opportunity, but by a failure to embrace these basic principles, noting that they are freely available to everyone regardless of social or economic background.

According to the President, Kenya’s progress as a nation depends on citizens who are willing to dream boldly and work consistently to turn those dreams into reality.

He urged the graduates, most of whom are entering the medical profession, to combine ambition with service and integrity as they join the healthcare workforce.

Ruto described Uzima University as an institution that instils both technical competence and practical values, saying the graduates were well prepared to serve communities across the country.

“Your starting point does not define your destination. Your background does not limit your future, and your present circumstances do not dictate your final story,” he said.

He further called on the graduates to become “practical dreamers”—individuals who dream boldly but commit to daily effort to achieve their goals as they step into professional life.
