The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has dismissed as fake a notice circulating online claiming that traders operating along Murang’a Highway would be evicted from the road reserve.
In a statement on Friday, February 27, KeNHA clarified that the notice alleging plans to clear all road encroachments along the highway was false and misleading.
“KeNHA wishes to notify the public that a notice currently circulating online alleging that the Authority intends to clear encroachments within the road reserve along Murang’a Highway is false,” KeNHA clarified.
“The said notice is misleading, intended to create unnecessary anxiety, and does not reflect the true status of any ongoing operations by the Authority in the area,” it added.
The fake notice, dated February 27, 2026, instructed traders operating within the road reserve to remove their stalls, kiosks and other structures within seven days.
It further claimed that traders wishing to continue operating after the construction of designated roadside stalls would be required to pay an annual fee of Ksh70,000 per stall and obtain approvals from the county government.
However, KeNHA distanced itself from the document, urging members of the public to verify any information shared on social media through its official communication channels before acting on it.
“KeNHA encourages the public to verify any information shared on social media platforms with the Authority’s official communication channels before circulating,” the Authority stated.
KeNHA reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate and timely information and to ensuring the safety, integrity, and proper functioning of national road infrastructure across the country.
The incident comes amid ongoing eviction notices along major highways, including Thika Road and Mombasa Road.
Just four days ago, the Authority issued eviction notices to roadside traders at Kihunguro, Allsops, and Delview along the Thika Superhighway, demanding that they vacate within seven days.
The notice, dated February 23, directed all affected traders to clear their wares from the road reserve to allow construction of designated roadside stations along the busy corridor.
“This is to facilitate the construction of designated roadside stations intended to enhance corridor functionality, improve safety standards, and alleviate traffic congestion along the affected sections,” the notice stated.
