KURA Announces 15-Day Traffic Disruption on Ngong Road

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a 15-day traffic disruption along Ngong Road to pave the way for the concreting of a deck for a flyover currently undergoing construction

In a notice dated Friday, March 6, KURA said the disruption will affect a section of the road near the intersections of Naivasha Road and Kingara Road around the Junction Mall area.

According to the Authority, the disruption will take effect from Monday, March 9, 2026, and continue until Monday, March 23, 2026.

“KURA wishes to notify the public that a section of Ngong Road near the Naivasha Road and Kingara Road Junction will experience traffic disruption from Monday, March 9, 2026, to Monday, March 23, 2026,” read part of the notice.

KURA explained that the traffic interruption will mainly occur between 6 pm and 2 am, when construction activities are scheduled to occur.

Motorists travelling from Karen along Ngong Road were told to divert from the Kenya Science Campus entrance to the Nairobi City County Training School entrance.

During the nighttime operations, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction to allow construction crews to carry out the installation of the flyover deck.

However, KURA assured motorists that during daytime hours, there will be no full road closures or major traffic diversions, as two lanes will remain open in each direction to maintain normal traffic flow.

“Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching the affected section and to follow all road signs provided. Police officers and traffic marshals will be on site to ensure smooth traffic flow,” KURA added.

The Authority apologised to road users for the inconvenience caused and emphasised that the works are necessary to enhance mobility and improve transport infrastructure within Nairobi.

The Ngong Road works are part of a broader infrastructure expansion programme being implemented by KURA to ease congestion in major urban centres, including Nairobi.

Over the past few months, the Authority has undertaken several road upgrades, including the construction of two viaducts on Kenyatta Avenue to streamline traffic flow between the Nairobi CBD and the Upper Hill.
