Africa-Press – Kenya. Shabana FC has parted ways with Peter Okidi in a dramatic fall from grace for the tactician who was crowned the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for November 2025, after guiding his side through an impressive unbeaten run that marked a turning point in their season.
“Shabana FC wishes to inform its supporters, partners and the general public that the Club has mutually agreed to part ways with head coach Peter Okidi,” read the club’s statement.
The tactician, who joined the “Glamour Boys” in October 2024, leaves the club after 18 months since he was tasked with reviving the club’s fortunes following a string of poor results that saw them fighting for survival in the relegation zone.
Okidi staged a dramatic turnaround and instilled a winning mentality among the players, efforts which saw the Kisii-based side finish fifth in the 2024/2025 season and emerge as title contenders in the current season.
However, a poor run of form in March from the tactician has prompted the club officials to take action and part ways with the coach.
“The Club expresses its sincere appreciation to Coach Okidi for his commitment, professionalism, and the dedication he demonstrated during his tenure. His contribution to the team is highly valued and he leaves with our utmost respect,” continued the statement.
Notably, the exit of Okidi has sparked mixed reactions from a section of fans.
Sam Mokaya lauded the coach for his leadership during his tenure at the club, adding that some of his tactics in the recent days had proved costly for the club.
Similarly, Walter Omenge said Okidi had blended well with the team, but his line-up in the recent matches had forced the team to drop points.
However, Peter Kenya described the management’s move as the worst mistake ever, saying that Coach Okidi had steered the team to top three in one of the most competitive football leagues in the country.
“This is a major shake-up in the FKF Premier League! Changing leadership just days before a massive clash with Gor Mahia is a huge gamble for the “Tore Bobe” side,” noted another fan, Thomas Abuga.
Shabana climbed to third place in January and were high on confidence after they beat Sofapaka 1-0 in the league at Gusii Stadium.
Despite retaining the third position, Shabana are now 13 points behind the league leaders Kogalo following draws by APS Bomet and Kogalo and subsequent defeats by AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks.
Although Shabana thrashed Muhoroni Youth FC 5-2 to advance to the round of 16 in the Mozzart Bet Cup, they failed to pick up a point in their last two league games.
Off the pitch, fans had also expressed their frustrations with the coach’s recent team selection and substitutions, saying he was not fielding some of the talented players to secure wins for the team.
But Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Kariobangi Sharks, where Shabana bottled the lead in a space of two minutes during the closing minutes of the match, proved to be Okidi’s final match in charge.
The club noted that further communication regarding the technical bench will be communicated in due course even as they prepare for the highly anticipated Saturday clash against league leaders Gor Mahia at Nyayo Stadium.
Okidi joins the growing list of 12 tacticians who have left their roles as coaches in the SportPesa League this season since the campaign began.
