Ruto Accuses Opposition of Exploiting Tuju's Troubles

Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has weighed in on former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju’s saga, calling out what he described as attempts to exploit Tuju’s misfortune for political gain.

Speaking at a public rally in Migori on Tuesday, March 24, Ruto criticised the opposition for allegedly misleading Tuju, urging them to exercise restraint and allow for his assistance.

“Even recently, they went to lie to Tuju. They told Tuju to go and hide in his bedroom and pretend that he had been abducted. Just imagine,” Ruto revealed.

The Head of State insisted that Tuju needed sincere guidance rather than manipulation, adding that what the former Jubilee Secretary General needed most was honest friends.

“Tuju needs honest friends, and he needs honest advice. He needs to be helped. He does not need scavengers who are trying to scavenge the misfortune of a citizen,” he added.

He further called out the united opposition led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for attempting to take advantage of the situation for their own political gain.

While taking a swipe at the duo, the President urged the former DP and his allies to step back and allow for a proper solution to Tuju’s misfortunes.

During the event, Ruto also took issue with the alleged involvement of former President Uhuru Kenyatta in the matter, warning against dragging the latter’s name into the dispute.

“Those people are trying to get popularity through their fellow citizens’ misfortune. We want Tuju to be advised so that his property can be saved,” Ruto emphasised.

Adding, “He does not need those conmen. They have even implicated former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s name in their mess.”

President Ruto’s comments come a day after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Tuju for allegedly faking his abduction.

The former CS was taken to Karen Police Station on Monday afternoon after going missing since Saturday last week, with his lawyers arguing that he was mishandled and injured during the arrest.

The Director of DCI, Mohamed Amin, confirmed Tuju’s arrest while addressing the press yesterday at 4 pm, with the police boss revealing that Tuju was at his home the whole time while detectives moved to trace his whereabouts.

In the wake of his woes, Tuju has since been rushed to Karen Hospital, with his legal team alleging that his health deteriorated while he was in police custody.
