Africa-Press – Kenya. Mombasa United moved back to the top of the National Super League (NSL) after a comeback 3-1 win over struggling Mully Children’s Family (MCF) at Mombasa Sports Club.

Mombasa United took advantage of Migori Youth’s 1-0 loss against Mwatate United on Saturday to open a three-point lead at the top of the table. Gilbert Selebwa’s charges moved to 55 points while Migori Youth remained second with 52 points.

“We needed to bounce back to winning ways. Despite going down 1-0 in the early stages of the game, the boys showed composure. It’s a good win because we lost our game last weekend,” said coach Selebwa. At Moi Stadium in Embu, 3K FC continued with their promotion push after drubbing Nzoia Sugar 3-1. The Embu-based side remains unbeaten under coach Nicodemus Omasete.

Elsewhere, Soy United ended their winless run in the league after a 2-0 win over Darajani Gogo at Eldoret Showground. Alfred Ratalo and Eric Mamasaka scored for Soy United. Kisumu All Stars also won its first game in the second round after beating Gucha Stars 1-0 in Kisumu.

On Saturday, Migori Youth’s promotion hopes were dealt a blow after losing 1-0 against relegation-threatened Mwatate United at Wundanyi Stadium. Juma Benchoni struck the vital goal in the dying minutes of a thrilling game. It was a huge relief for Evans Mafuta’s side as they battled to avoid the drop from the second-tier league. “This was a critical win for us. Winning against Migori was not easy because it’s a team full of experienced players,” said Mafuta.

Despite the win, Mwatate remains rooted in the danger zone. The Taita Taveta-based sideare 18th on the log with 21 points from 26 games. Promotion-chasing Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) also suffered a blow after being held to a 1-1 draw against Nairobi City Stars.

Following the draw, MOFA, coached by Charles Warinda, failed to move back to the top three positions. Fortune Sacco also battled to a 3-3 draw against hosts Naivas FC in a six-goal thriller at Kibiko grounds in Ngong.
