Africa-Press – Kenya. Defending champions Kenya Police FC and title contenders Tusker FC face tricky Round of 16 tests on Friday as the Mozzart Bet Cup resumes at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Police take on giant-killers BB Bread FC, while Tusker clash with an in-form Kariobangi Sharks FC side, in ties that could reshape the competition’s narrative. BB Bread arrive as the tournament’s biggest disruptors after knocking out heavyweights AFC Leopards SC and Gor Mahia FC in successive rounds.

They first held Leopards to a 2-2 draw before winning on penalties, then stunned Gor Mahia with a disciplined 1-0 victory, absorbing pressure before striking late. Inside their camp, there is no sense of overachievement.

“People keep calling them upsets, but inside the squad we feel we are just doing our job properly,” said captain Joseph Tindo. “We have respect for Kenya Police, but we are not going there to admire them. We are going there to compete.”

Head coach Ajastine Okoba has built their run on structure and clarity, insisting his side will not change approach. “When everyone executes their job, we become very difficult to break down,” he said. “We will have moments where we suffer, but we must stay compact.”

Police, however, have progressed with control. A narrow win over Embakasi United and a 4-1 result against TBM Health highlighted their ability to manage games and step up when needed.

Still, caution defines their camp. “In cup football, you cannot judge teams by where they play,” said defender Daniel Sakari. “If they have beaten Gor Mahia and Leopards, that tells you everything.”

Head coach Nicholas Muyoti echoed the warning: “There is no such thing as an easy cup game. When a team reaches this stage, they have already earned respect.”

The second tie pits contrasting styles as Tusker face Kariobangi Sharks. Tusker’s route has been steady — edging Mwea United before beating Bidco United — with head coach Julien Mette insisting organisation remains key.

“If we lose organisation, even briefly, we give the opponent exactly what they need,” he said. “We are here to win it.”

Sharks, by contrast, arrive with momentum and attacking freedom after emphatic wins over Pwani Oil and KU Hardnuts. Forward Humphrey Aroko has been central to that form.

“I don’t step on the pitch just to play; I step on it to influence what happens in the game,” he said. Head coach William Muluya says their identity will not change.

“We are not building a team that survives matches; we are building one that controls moments,” he said. Captain Charles Momanyi believes their rise is deserved. “We have worked for every step. Tusker will test everything about us,” he said.

Tactically, the contrast is clear. Tusker will look to control space and tempo, while Sharks will rely on speed and movement to stretch the game. “When we move as a unit and play at speed, we can trouble any defence,” Aroko added.

Mette, however, insists discipline will decide the outcome. “If we lose rhythm, we lose control of the match,” he said. With a CAF Confederation Cup ticket edging closer, the stakes are clear — and so is the danger. For the favourites, progression is expected. For their challengers, another upset is already within reach.
