Africa-Press – Kenya. Mfalme FC captain Dennis Liyayi has urged his teammates to remain focused despite their emphatic 5-1 victory over Murang’a Seal FC to reach the quarter-finals of the Mozzart Bet Cup.
The Division One side produced one of the biggest results of the Round of 16, dismantling the Premier League outfit in a dominant display at the Eldoret ASK Showground on Saturday.
Mfalme controlled large spells of the match, taking an early lead and maintaining pressure throughout before sealing a comprehensive win. Forward Payai Arok scored twice, continuing his fine form in front of goal, while Murang’a Seal managed only a late consolation from the penalty spot.
“Mfalme captain Joseph Omondi said they approached the match with belief and discipline.”
“We knew it would be a tough game, but we prepared well and believed in ourselves,” Omondi said.
“This result shows what we can do when we stay disciplined and play as a team.”
The victory underlines Mfalme’s strong form this season, with the side currently leading FKF Division One Zone D and pushing for promotion.
“We are happy with the win, but we have to stay grounded,” Omondi added.
“The job is not finished yet, and we must remain focused on our targets.”
Round of 16 action elsewhere produced a series of closely contested matches as top sides edged through to the last eight.
Kenya Police FC defeated BB Bread 1-0 at Kasarani Stadium, while Tusker FC registered a similar 1-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks.
Mfalme will now await the official draw to determine their next opponents, with the quarter-finals scheduled for April 25–26.
“At this stage, every team is strong, but we are ready for whoever we face,” Liyayi said.
“We just need to keep working hard and maintain this level.”
Head coach Julius Abik praised his players for executing the game plan effectively against Murang’a Seal.
“The players followed instructions and showed great character,” Abik said.
“We respected our opponents, but we also believed we could win.”
Abik added that maintaining consistency will be crucial as the team balances its cup ambitions with league commitments.
“We have to take it one game at a time,” he said.
“The focus now shifts back to the league, where we must continue performing.”
Mfalme return to FKF Division One action with a match against Muhoroni Youth at Radar Grounds in Eldoret as they continue their push for promotion.
At Wang’uru Stadium, Shabana FC also advanced by the slimmest of margins, edging Kuta Collections 1-0 to underline the increasingly competitive nature of the tournament where top-flight sides were made to work for every inch.
Shabana FC midfielder James Majembe noted that the competition remains wide open heading into the quarter-finals.
“Every team in the quarter-finals deserves to be there,” Majembe said.
“It will come down to small details and how teams handle the pressure.”
Shabana head coach Andrew Ongwae cautioned his side to remain alert following the upsets witnessed in the competition.
“We have seen what can happen in this competition,” Ongwae said.
“Teams must stay focused because any mistake can cost you.”
With their place in the last eight secured, Mfalme FC will now turn attention to maintaining their momentum as they continue their campaign in both the league and the cup.
On Friday, Kenya Police FC squeezed past BB Bread FC 1-0 in a tightly contested affair, while Tusker FC mirrored that same scoreline against Kariobangi Sharks.
Ulinzi Stars progressed to the quarter-finals after edging out Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 at Bukhungu Stadium.
