President Uhuru Kenyatta turned up at the Nyayo Stadium this afternoon unexpectedly to inspect preparations for former President Moi’s funeral service.
Uhuru drove in in a G Wagon Mercedes Benz with the Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Samson Mwathethe in waiting.There was minimal security in sight.Earlier on Sunday, former President Mwai Kibaki made way to Parliament Buildings to pay his last respects to his predecessor.
Reports reaching Standard Digital desk also indicate that at least 10 presidents will be in attendance of the funeral service on Tuesday.Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua has said that they continue to receive messages of condolence to the family of Mzee Moi, while also compiling the list of Heads of State and Government and other foreign dignitaries who have indicated they shall attend the state memorial service.
The body of former President Daniel arap Moi has been lying-in-state at Parliament Buildings, Nairobi since yesterday, through to Monday, to allow for public viewing.
An inter-denominational national memorial service led by the African Inland Church (AIC) will be held on Tuesday, at Nyayo Stadium. The former president will be buried on Wednesday, February 12, at his Kabarak home.Moi will be accorded full military honours, which include a 19-gun salute and martial music during the funeral procession.
Moi, who served as president for 24 years, died on Tuesday aged 95.
