Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards have backed Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed’s decision to establish a Caretaker Committee to run football in the country.

A terse press statement signed by chairman Dan Shikanda on Monday lauded the shock move to disband the Football Kenya Federation as one aimed at facilitating accountability in the management of football.

“AFC Leopards would like to thank the Minister for Sports, Culture and National Heritage Amb. (Dr.) Amina Mohamed and her team for the bold step of setting up a Caretaker Committee aimed at adopting a good governance framework to facilitate accountability and prudent management in football,” read the statement.

“AFC Leopards SC endorses and supports the appointment of Justice (Rtd) Aaron Ringera and his committee in a move that is set to espouse a transformative approach to football management.”

“The move creates an environment that shall fully exploit football’s capacity for leisure and employment, in addition to offering avenues to enhance national cohesion, development and give hope to thousands of youths who chose football as a career,” concluded the statement.

Leopards become the third top tier club to rally behind the CS after rivals Gor Mahia and Posta Rangers also expressed support on Sunday.

“We pledge our support as you burn the midnight oil to bring back sound management and institute integrity in the football industry,” said Gor Mahia secretary general Bernard Omondi in a statement.

“The management of Posta Rangers is fully committed to supporting the caretaker committee as they take up the management of running the federation in the next six months as directed by the National Government,” said Posta Rangers chairman John Tonui.
