Africa-Press – Kenya. Kisumu All Stars coach Salim Babu has termed their 3-0 mid-week win over SS Assad in the National Super League as a game-changer.
It was the team’s first win in the league after recording two losses and a draw.
“The win means a lot for us. We were under pressure to win because we had a winless streak of three games,” said Babu.
“This is one of our best performances and I have told the players clearly that for us to return to the Kenyan Premier League, we must get positive results at home and away.”
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game against Fortune Sacco at Wanguru Stadium in Kirinyaga, coach Babu noted: “The win will boost the players’ morale as the league gathers momentum. We are traveling to Kirinyaga for a positive result. We don’t have a good away record this season but we want to turn the tide.”
During the game against the newbies SS Assad at Moi Stadium in Kisumu, Collins Onyango, Ibrahim Ochieng and Tony Nyangor were on target for the former Premier League side.
The tactician remained confident that he will lead the team back to KPL next season after faltering in their quest for promotion in the last games of last season.
At the same time, Shabana’s team manager Jared Sani has termed the team’s 4-0 loss against Mully Children’s Family at Thika Stadium as a reality check.
“The players didn’t play according to the coach’s instructions. It was a shocking loss. However, we hope to bounce back when we play Mombasa Elites at home on Sunday,” said Sani.
“Mombasa Elites are currently unbeaten in the league and lead the log but the players are under pressure to win the game.”
Mombasa Elites narrowly edged Mara Sugar 3-2.
In other matches scheduled for Sunday, Muhoroni Youth will be at home to Mully Children’s Family at Muhoroni Stadium as APS Bomet welcome Migori Youth at Bomet Stadium.
Gusii FC entertain Vihiga United at Awendo Green Stadium in the first of a tripleheader. In the second game, Shabana will host Mombasa Elites while in the third game, Mara Sugar will collide with Zoo Kericho.
SS Assad host Coastal Heroes at Mbaraki Stadium in a coast region derby while Murang’a Seal will hope to bounce back when they welcome Kibera Black Stars at St Sebastian Park in Murang’a.
Dandora Love will battle it out with newly-promoted Naivas FC at Camp Toyoyo as Mwatate United play Silibwet Leons at Wundanyi Stadium.
