Africa-Press – Kenya. Zetech Sparks attacking midfielder Rael Kamanda will use her vast experience abroad to help the side attain their top three objectives this season.
Kamanda, who decamped from the relegated Makolanders to the Ruiru-based side, was voted the best right attacking midfielder during the Inaugural Kenya Footballers Welfare Association awards last week.
Kamanda propelled Tanzania’s Alliance FC Mwanza to a second-place finish in the Serengeti Lite Women’s Premier League during the 2018-2019 season and hopes to repeat the same feat with Sparks.
She was unlucky not to score or assist in their 2-0 loss to Trans-Nzoia Falcons despite dominating but hopes to open her account when they host Kisumu All-Starlets on December 28.
“I am only 24 but I have amassed enough experience under my belt. Playing in Tanzania probably helped me develop into the player I am today and I want to bring that fighting spirit, energy, and desire to Sparks,” she said.
“Zetech are one of the most exciting teams in the league with a mixture of youth and experience. We lost to Trans-Nzoia but there were lots of positives.
“If we can convert our chances and be clinical enough, then we can be competitive against any opposition.
“The league is tough but with our quality, I don’t see why we should not finish among test three. Hopefully, I can be the difference against Kisumu,” she quipped.
Kamande captained Oserian between 2014 and 2018. Her career highlight to date remains leading SEP Oyugis to WPL promotion from Division One League in 2020.
The diploma in Tourism management student wants to be a role model to the Maasai community by carving a niche in football that can help transform society.
“There’s no hiding from the fact that the MAA community has talented sportsmen and women who have not been unearthed. I want to show them there’s a future in football for women in Kenya. All my life has been spent in Kajiado and football is my first love.”
