Africa-Press – Kenya. The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a statement over an advertisement that announced the mass recruitment exercise for police officers.
This was after the job advert that was making rounds on various social media platforms, stated that NPS was seeking to recruit 5000 new officers into the force.
However, in a statement by the NPS on its official social media account, it was stated that the recruitment advert was fake and a scam scheme by individuals who were seeking to swindle money from innocent Kenyans.
“Further to our recent disclaimer to circulating purported police recruitment, NPS wishes to remind the public that the purported announcement is fake and should be treated as a scam.
“Fraudsters and conmen prey on unsuspecting Kenyans so defraud them through such scams,” read the statement.
NPS reminded the public to be wary of such schemes adding that they only advertise recruitment exercises on various media outlets in the country such as newspapers.
The law enforcers added they also inform various police stations of such exercises to enable Kenyans to access the information easily.
“NPS recruitment announcements are done through mainstream media and not through online publications. In addition, the NPS and NPSC websites shall carry such an announcement when made.
“Further, all police stations and commands shall be notified of same, and the public can verify such information easily,” read the statement.
In the fake job advert, it had been announced that the recruitment exercise would commence on February 22 at 0800Hrs across the 47 counties.
The advert started making rounds on social media after the Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, revealed that the government had plans to recruit 5,000 police officers in readiness for the August 9 polls.
Kibicho stated that the government had planned to use Ksh5 billion for the recruitment process as the government prepares for the polls in less than six months.
