Africa-Press – Kenya. Ready to usher in lovers’ day tomorrow, Nairobi’s Central Business District has been painted red and white in readiness for Valentines day.
Valentine’s Day is marked on February 14 and is globally celebrated.
The popular colour scheme is red – a tribute to Venus, the Roman goddess of love, who is believed to have favored a red rose.
Being on a Sunday, vendors flooded the sidewalks around Archives as they displayed flowers, teddy bears, cards and other items at low prices.
From Afya centre up to National Archive, the busy Tom Mboya street the products have been laid on the streets to attract customers to purchase them.
A second hand clothes seller Martine Ouko said he took advantage of the special day and decided to sell items which would be bought fast.
“I have been here at Archives since Friday and all I can say is Kenyans still appreciate the special day by how they are purchasing the products,” he said.
The teddy bears most having “I love you ” message printed cost between Sh300 and Sh800 depending on the size.
The flowers both natural and artificial cost from Sh300 to about Sh1000.
Cups have not been spared as most of them have been painted with hearts and a message for the loved one.
Picture frames have been decorated with love symbols and crafted with love messages.
Men and women were also spotted taking a break from their busy schedules, looking at the products that caught their attention.
“Valentine’s is a time that I cherish and celebrate each year. I use it to always celebrate and remind my partner of six years that she is still the one ,” said Isaac Kabugi, looking at which item to purchase.
” I always buy teddy bear for my husband as a way of appreciating him for being a good partner,” said Njambi Njeri.
