Africa-Press – Kenya. The battle for survival in the Kenya Cup will go down to the wire after wins by Nakuru and Nondies over the weekend.
Nondies edged Impala 20-18 in an entertaining match at the Ngong Racecourse while Nakuru piled more misery on Quins with an 18-13 scoreline at the RFUEA ground.
Nondies jumped two slots to 10th with 15 points while Impala are placed bottom of the log with just 12 points.
Nakuru dislodged Homeboyz at ninth with 16 points while Homeboyz, who lost 31-6 to Kabras in Kakamega, dropped to 11th on 15 points.
Nondies coach Willis Ojal breathed a huge sigh of relief at the final whistle.
“These are two tough teams who want to stay up and the boys executed very well and kept their composure to grind out a victory.
Nondies final match of the season is against relegation-threatened Homeboyz this Saturday with the loser likely to be relegated to the championship.
Impala head coach Oscar Osir said his charges must secure a bonus-point win in their final game against Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
“It all now comes down to winning our last game of the season and hope other results go our way,” added Osir
Nakuru head coach Felix Oloo saluted his charges for hard-fought win over Quins, inching them closer to survival “We play Menengai Oilers next week and we have the momentum. We will relish the challenge of playing one of the contenders for the title ” said Oloo
In other results, Mwamba all but confirmed their status for next season with a bonus point 28-6 victory over Masinde Muliro University in Kakamega . The win pushes Kulabu to fifth on the log with 20 points
Felix Otieno, Joel Inzuga, Collins Injera and Sabala Tendwa scored a try each with Brian Kivasia managing one conversion while Tony Omondi drilled home three.
Champions KCB edged Strathmore Leos 23-9 in Madaraka to solidify second spot with 44-points, six behind Kabras.
