Africa-Press – Kenya. The 18th edition of the Ligi Ndogo East Africa Cup kicked off at the Lenana School grounds on Saturday.

The tournament has attracted school teams and football academies from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi.

The teams will be charging for titles in various age categories ranging from seven to 19 years.

The tournament which began with 100 preliminary matches on Saturday, will enter the knockout stages on Sunday.

Kings Football Academy opened their Under-15 group stage account with a slim 1-0 win over Ligi Ndogo. Team captain Joseph Onyango Oundo netted the winner.

Legacy Academy played out a barren draw against UFA Simba in the Under 11 category and registered a similar scoreline against Black Panther in the U9 category. They, however, thumped Juventus Academy 4-0 in the Under 13 contest.

Soka Talent Academy bagged a 1-0 win over Cheza Sports through Kevin Kimanzi’s spot kick in their U13 group stage match. Shadrack Otieno’s hat-trick powered Soka Talent’s U15 team past Makini School.

RO Academy registered mixed results in the Under 11 group stage matches, first beating AR FC Academy 4-1 before losing 2-0 to Black Panther Academy.

Express Academy Under 11 team managed a barren draw against Juventus Academy and lost to Soka Talent 1-0.

The Ligi Ndogo East Africa cup tournament has produced some of Kenya’s finest talent including Harambee Stars winger Ayub Timbe (Buriram United, Thailand) and Yidah Sven( Marumo Gallants, South Africa).

The tournament’s defending champions are Ligi Ndogo (U7), Ligi Ndogo Galaxy (U9), Ufa Simba (U11), Ufa Simba (U13), Ligi Ndogo Planets (U15), Berlin FC (U17), Berlin FC (U19).
