Africa-Press – Kenya. IEBC Vice chair Juliana Cherera has disclosed that she was heckled at an IEBC workshop held in Mombasa last week by a group of staff.
During the function, Cherera said three other commissioners who distanced themselves from presidential results announced by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati were also treated to a hostile reception.
Confirming the heckling in an interview with local media, Cherera said a section of staff, however, cheered them.
“Yes, I was booed. The other commissioners were booed too. But amidst the booing, some cheered for us,” Cherera told NTV.
She faulted Chebukati for doing nothing as they were jeered by a section of staff.
“The chairman was in attendance and watched silently as some clusters of staff booed us and he did not raise a finger to stop them,” she added.
The heckling happened during the post-election evaluation and boundaries workshop held on September 15.
Cherera and the three include commissioners Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyang’aya held a press conference at the same time when Chebukati announced William Ruto as the winner of the presidential elections.
