Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has congratulated Kenyan Rosemary Wanjiru for winning Silver in the Berlin Marathon.
Wanjiru clocked 2:18:00 to finish second having run the second fastest time for a debut appearance in the race.
“Magnificent performance by Rosemary Wanjiru for clocking 2:18:00 to get silver in the 2022 Berlin Marathon. Kenya is proud of you,” Ruto said.
Tigist Assefa of Ethiopia won the women’s race in a stunning time of 2:15:37 to set a new course record.
Wanjiru’s commendable performance was the icing on Kenya’s cake after the greatest marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge stunned the world by breaking the men’s world record.
Kipchoge won the Berlin Marathon in 2:01:09, thirty seconds faster than his previous world record of 2:01:39, set in 2018.
The victory was his fourth in Berlin and 17th overall in a career of 19 marathon appearances.
