Africa-Press – Kenya. Speaker of the senate Amason Kingi on Friday officially opened the induction of County Assembly speakers in Mombasa.
The induction will begin on Friday, October 7, and end Sunday, October 9.
The induction which took place in Mombasa was attended by Assembly speakers from different counties.
Kingi congratulated the speakers for being elected.
He reminded them that they are central figures in the devolution space, given their roles.
The Senate speaker said that their mandate is to oversee county governments and enact laws that support service provision to citizens.
“Supporting the Speakers to have the requisite capacity and know-how to discharge their constitutional mandate is therefore mandatory and the Senate views itself as a key player in this regard,” Kingi tweeted.
Kingi said the induction is an ideal and timely engagement for the speakers who have recently taken
During the induction session, engagements with commissions and independent offices specifically the controller of the budget, commission of revenue allocation, office of the Auditor General and salaries and remuneration commission among other commissions are expected.
