Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenyans on Monday, October 10, celebrated Utamaduni day .
While declaring the day as a holiday on Friday, outgoing Interior CS Fred Matiang’i said Kenyans should honor the day in unity.
He said they should recognize Kenya’s rich cultural diversity in a manner that promotes unity, national cohesion and economic progress.
Leaders went to their social media to celebrate the day and post photos dressed in their cultural attire.
“Best wishes to my fellow Kenyans as we mark this great occasion of #UtamaduniDay. Our Culture, Our Pride!” Senate Speaker Amason Kingi tweeted.
“Our cultural diversity has always been our greatest strength. Happy #UtamaduniDay,” former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho said.
Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua said, “The beauty of our country is in the diversity and richness of our culture. It’s also what holds us together as a great People. Let us unite in our aspiration to make a better, inclusive country for all. Happy Utamaduni Day.”
Nominated Public Service and Gender CS Aisha Jumwa tweeted, “As we celebrate Utamaduni Day let us live to inspire cultural connections and appreciate who we are”.
The former Deputy Governor Nyeri County Caroline Karugu said oneness is found in the rich cultural diversity of the different communities, wishing Kenyans a happy Utamaduni day.
“Our cultural diversity makes us stronger. Happy #UtamaduniDay,” KANU leader Gideon Moi said.
“The beauty of our country lies in the diversity of it’s people. May our rich cultural diversity and heritage help to promote National Unity, Social Justice and Cohesion. Best wishes to my fellow Kenyans as we mark #UtamaduniDay,” former Speaker Justin Muturi tweeted.
Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi thanked his people and Kenyans at large for the growth they have undergone.
“A Happy #UtamaduniDay. Our cultural diversity & unique traditions have immensely contributed to our growth & success as a County. As such, the preservation, & promotion of our culture remains our top priority,” he added.
