Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has congratulated President Alexander Van der Bellen following his re-election as Federal President of Austria. Ruto wished Van der Bellen success as he begins a new term.
Kenya and Austria share longstanding cordial relations that have been of mutual benefit to the peoples of both nations. The President is keen on deepening economic, cultural, and diplomatic ties with Austria.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has also send a congratulatory message to Van der Bellen. The 78-year-old won on Sunday at the first round, with a clear margin to avoid run-offs.
He will be in office for the next six-years for his second term. Van der Bellen was contesting against six opponents including his closest rival Walter Rosenkranz of FPO.
“A majority is easily said, but an absolute majority means more votes than all others combined, and one must take that very seriously,” he said speaking at a national broadcaster ORF. He added: “I was not at all sure that it would happen but it did, and I am very pleased.”
