Help us get keys to Wang'uru stadium! Waiguru pleads with Ruto

Africa-Press – Kenya. Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has pleaded with President William Ruto to open Wang’uru Stadium.

Speaking on Saturday, she claimed that after construction was completed, a certain Principal Secretary locked and took the keys to the stadium.

“Tulifungiwa Wang’uru Stadium na yule PS na akaenda na funguo. Tukiitisha ndio tufanye mkutano anakataa (Wang’uru stadium was locked by that PS and went with the keys. When we asked for them to open so that we hold our meeting he refused),” Waiguru said.

She was speaking during the launch of Thiba dam.

The second term governor asked the President to just utter one word and the keys will be brought back.

“Lakini najua ukisema neno moja tu, funguo itapeanwa na hata ukitaka kufanyia sherehe za Jamhuri hapa tutakukaribisha kwa huo uwanja,” Waiguru added.

Construction work kicked off in December 2020 for the construction of the stadium.

The Sh300 million project began following a presidential directive and was expected to be completed in six months, but it had been delayed by over by four months.

The grounds had been a launching pad for political careers and a platform for largely unfulfilled political campaign promises.

The stadium has a VIP pavilion in concrete, steel pavilion stands and roofing of earth terraces in a steel roof structure.

The facility is expected to raise Kirinyaga County’s profile as national league matches and other competitions will be held at the stadium.

Strategically situated along the Embu-Nairobi highway and with a good road network around the Mt Kenya region, Wang’uru Stadium will serve parts of Eastern, Nairobi and Central regions.
