Africa-Press – Kenya. The National Assembly will on Wednesday debate on the CS nominee report tabled on Tuesday.
The committee will then send the names to the President for appointment paving way for their swearing-in.
In the report, three CS nominees were rejected by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments.
Tourism nominee Penina Malonza was unanimously rejected over lack of qualifications.
Aisha Jumwa (Public Service) and Mithika Linturi (Agriculture) were also rejected by the minority side.
Moving the notice of motion on Tuesday, Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah informed the House that Malonza’s rejection was unanimous.
“We did agree on the rejection, it was unanimous without taking a vote. This recommendation on this nominee is in no way an indictment of Penina Malonza, ” the Kikuyu MP said.
Out of the 24 nominations made by President Ruto, only Malonza unanimously failed to impress the Committee chaired by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
The Azimio team authored a Minority report recommending the rejection of the two, citing integrity issues.
However, Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wa insisted the two remain innocent until proven guilty.
Ichung’wa defended them over court cases threatening their clearance.
“Aisha Jumwa has been charged in court but there is no court in Kenya that has passed any judgment on her and Mithika Linturi. It is worth noting that the criminal case that had been levelled against Linturi was actually withdrawn by the office of the DPP,” he said.
The vetting started on Monday, October 17 and ended on Saturday, October 22.
