Africa-Press – Kenya. Nakuru flyhalf Geoffrey Ominde and KCB winger Geoffrey Okwach will start for the Simbas in Sunday’s crunch World Cup repechage encounter against USA in Dubai.
Ominde has been handed the Number 10 jersey following injuries to playmaker Jone Kubu and non-availability of United Kingdom-based Dominic Coulsom due to academic commitments.
Okwach, who has played for the Kenya under 20 side in the recent past, slots to the blind wing with Bryceson Adaka taking the #13 jersey in place of Vincent Onyala, who is with Shujaa at the Hong Kong Sevens.
Loose head prop Andrew Siminyu, who is based in South Africa, starts on the beach alongside Northampton based forward Joshua Weru.
Speaking after the Captain’s run, head coach Paul Odera said he is happy with the 23 players in camp for Sunday’s showdown against a better-ranked USA outfit.
“We have had a good week of training. We love the combinations we have put in the side and there are no injuries at all. The boys are relishing the challenge,” said Odera.
The former national team skipper said they have trained at altitude and in the heat which will help them during the qualifiers. “For the last fortnight, we trained in conditions similar to what we will face at the repechage. We have a game plan which we hope will enable us win on Sunday,” said Odera.
