Africa-Press – Kenya. Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has claimed corruption in the Judiciary is conducted by willing judicial lawyers, cartels and a network of other lawyers.
“Corruption happens in Judiciary through a network of lawyers, willing lawyers and cartels whereby a decision is scaled,” Maanzo said on Monday.
Last year, former President Uhuru Kenyatta slammed judges for shielding themselves from investigations.
He claimed that the judicial officers were demanding of others what they are not willing to apply to themselves.
He said courts should not use court orders to insulate themselves from accountability saying that is not democracy but judicial authoritarianism.
The Judiciary is one of the three state organs.
It is responsible for delivering justice in line with the Constitution among interpretation of the law as well as implementation.
As a result, Maanzo suggested mediation on simple cases that can be solved through police mediate hence minimising the backlog of cases and easing the work of magistrates.
He said Kenyans should be allowed to speak through a forum whereby information should reach the Judiciary with detailed evidence without victimising the whistle-blower.
He said with knowledge of judicial officers being exposed through these platforms then it is easy to fight corruption in the Judiciary.
Maanzo said the government should directly fund the Judiciary without politicising it.
