Africa-Press – Kenya. Tommy and Max Cavenagh, sons of former KNRC champion Alastair Cavenagh, sturck maiden victories in the 2022 national motorcycle enduro championships which ended on Sunday at the Bilashakha Farm in Naivasha.

Eleven-year-old Tommy, who entered the race against his doctor’s advice following an appendectomy the previous weekend, finished second to secure the overall championship title on his 65cc KTM.

His younger brother, Max, eight was third but with enough points to clinch the 50cc championship on a Husqvarna after a hard-fought battle with his closest challenger but close friend and schoolmate Elam Sidi.

The Cavenagh brothers started enduro at the Bilashaka Farm event in 2021 and have gone on to compete in every round of this year’s championship, improving their skills, confidence and speed.

However, it was never a smooth ride, with some disappointing results along the way.

“That’s all part of motorsports I guess …as Dad has told us on many occasions,” said Tommy.

The duo are now targeting the buggy autocross championships and look set to follow in the footsteps of their father in motorsports.

“We want to show that we are quicker than dad in a rally car,” they revealed.

The brothers will both move a class up in the enduro championship. Tommy will compete in the 85cc category while Max will race in the 65cc class.

Max said: “I’m looking forward to a bike with gears, not automatic, racing against my friends, having fun and camping.”
