Africa-Press – Kenya. Sports principal secretary Jonathan Mueke has vowed to complete the country’s stalled stadiums.
Mueke, who assumed office on Monday, promised to visit the projects within three months to expedite their presentation.
“I’ll spend my first 100 days in consultation with the CS in going around the country to look at our projects so that we can do a baseline on the stadia and other infrastructural projects,” Mueke said.
“We want to find out what has been done, where we are, and what needs to be done to complete them so that they can add value to the people we are there to serve,” he added.
Through a collaborative leadership approach, he plans to work closely with a variety of institutions, organizations, and departments outside the State Department of Sports and Arts.
“We’ll be working with the Ministry of Education very closely to make sure we begin to develop the talent of our sportsmen and women right from primary school to secondary school,” Mueke said.
He said the program was aimed at creating a reservoir for the country’s national teams.
“We need to go into our schools and develop their infrastructure so that they become a source of talent for our national teams in all age groups.”
In his remarks, Mueke urged sports federations in the country to desist from sideshows that have tarnished their image.
He called on the federations to adhere to the highest level of integrity to secure sponsorships for local teams and leagues.
“This is an area we have been having challenges. We are going to be working with the federations very closely and I’m glad that CS Ababu Namwamba has already taken the lead on this matter.
“This is an area where we have been facing challenges. Our sportsmen and women are major stakeholders in this industry. They are the geese that lay golden eggs. We will help them build the working capacity of our players.”
