Africa-Press – Kenya. Former Kenya Cup side Nondescripts maintains the lead in the KRU Championship after match Day Three.
Nondies remain unbeaten in the league so far after recording three wins on the trot and are on top of the log with 15 points as they step up their promotion campaign. The club was relegated from Kenya Cup last season alongside Impala Saracens.
On Saturday, Nondies handed Kisumu RFC their first loss of the season after beating them 29-10. It was Kisumu’s first loss of the season at Ngong Racecourse.
Newly promoted Daystar Falcons are second in the log with 10 points while Kabarak University are third with a point behind the newbies. Kabarak suffered a narrow 13-11 loss against Shamas Foundation.
Daystar defeated Zetech Oaks 45-13 in an all-varsity encounter at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) main campus in Juja. Daystar and Zetech were promoted from KRU Nationwide this season.
Impala Saracens recorded their first win of the season after edging the bottom of the log United States International University Africa (USIU-A) Martials 41-17.
USIU-A remains winless so far and are rooted at the bottom of the log. The former Kenya Cup side recorded their first win of the season after seeing off Eldoret RFC 31-19 at the Bull Ring in Kakamega.
USIU-A coach Tom Lagat attributed the losses to the absence of key players including Donald Ochieng, Tobias Otieno, and Martin Jeremy, who are currently injured.
“It has been tough I must say. I hope to get all the injured players back in January,” he said. The game between South Coast Pirates and the University of Eldoret’s Trojans was postponed.
After losing three games on the bounce, USIU-A will hope to bounce back next Saturday when they host Daystar Falcons while log leaders Nondies will be away in Eldoret against the University of Eldoret.
Kisumu RFC will be at home against Impala as Western Bulls host Zetech Oaks. At Eldoret Sports Club, Eldoret RFC will welcome Shamas Foundation while Kabarak University will host South Coast Pirates.
