Kenya Kwanza party official accuse Ruto of favouritism in appointments

Africa-Press – Kenya. Parties affiliated with Kenya Kwanza Alliance now feel that President William Ruto is handing state appointments to UDA party members only. This is according to Democratic Party (DP) Secretary-General Jacob Ali Haji.

Haji told the Sunday Nation that they have been following the appointments made by the President keenly and they now feel sidelined. The official said that parties that formed the ruling coalition have observed that the President is only focused on the UDA members when making appointments leaving others hanging.

He said most of the decisions made in the coalition lack the input of affiliate members. Haji said Ruto’s engagements with the coalition partners have also slowed down, especially after his inauguration.

“That could be the beginning of the end of the Kenya Kwanza coalition as affiliate parties are not happy with appointments to government and parastatal jobs,” he said.

“Decisions are being made by one party but we were equal partners during the signing of the Kenya Kwanza agreement. We did everything together to help Ruto win. Things changed after the election.”

He questioned how they will work with no meetings whereas the coalition caucus has never been convened. “We are disappointed because UDA dominates everything.”

He said the appointments made only favoured UDA and not any other party in Kenya Kwanza. Kenya Kwanza Alliance has three founder members: UDA, Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya. Over 10 parties also signed a deal to be part of the alliance.
