Africa-Press – Kenya. A Makadara court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl within Nairobi’s Mowlem area. The court heard that John Mbatia committed the heinous act on Jamhuri Day, December 12.
“It is alleged that on 12th December 2022, the convict lured minor, aged years to a corridor near a railway line at K.C.C. Mowlem area where he defiled her.”
The office of the director of public prosecution said the sentence was handed down to the convict on Friday after he pleaded guilty to the offence before Makadara Principal Magistrate Hellen Onkwani.
“The accused pleaded guilty despite being warned of the consequences of pleading guilty,” the ODPP said. According to the Sexual Offences Act, the defilement of a minor aged below 11 years carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment.
“A person who commits an offence of defilement with a child aged eleven years or less shall upon conviction be sentenced to imprisonment for life,” the Act states.
