It's shameful for senior members to attend PSC interviews - Makau Mutua

Africa-Press – Kenya. Azimio spokesperson Makau Mutua has hit out at some of the persons shortlisted for the position of the male member of the Parliamentary Service Commission.

Makau on Saturday wondered why some “very senior” people were “subjecting” themselves to the interviews for the position, which began on December 30.

“It’s very humiliating. The job is beneath them. Don’t they have goats and farms back in the village to tend to? Please send them packing.”

The interviews are being conducted at the Mini Chamber, First Floor, County Hall, Parliament Buildings, by PSC Commissioners led by the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

On December 22, the Parliament released a list of eight shortlisted candidates for the aforementioned position chosen from 171 applications.

Among the candidates are former Kisii Governor James Ongwae, United Democratic Party party chairman Johnson Muthama, former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa and former Aldai MP Cornelly Serem.

Others are former Limuru MP Peter Mungai, former Matungu MP David Were, former Kwale assembly speaker Sammy Nyamawi Ruwa and John Aruma Ekale.

Seven of the candidates presented themselves before the interview panel on Friday.

Former MP Wamalwa did not present himself for vetting.

“The PSC, today (Friday), interviewed the eight shortlisted candidates to fill the vacant position of a male member. However, Chrisantus Wamalwa did not appear for the interview,” the Senate said in a notice.

The PSC is expected to recommend the name of a suitable candidate for appointment to the National Assembly and the Senate.
