Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has said a judicial commission to investigate state capture will be formed as promised. In his manifesto, Ruto promised to form the commission within 30 days after taking over power.
The commission, he says, will look into what he terms as conflict of interest in government. The President spoke during his first media interview this year on Wednesday night.
He however, said he has been forced to go slow on implementing it since he has more ‘pressing’ issues, which include sorting the economy. He said diverting his energy towards creating the commission is likely to distract him from his cause.
“Our plate is full, we have to balance between sorting out the economy, which we are almost in the red, or swing this big thing that will drain our energy. However, I want to promise you that, that story will be told,” Ruto said.
“The events of August were horrible, even the military had been roped in to sabotage the will of the people because of that state capture menace. If only Chebukati was to tell you the kind of hell he went through. The day the story of August 15 will be told in Kenya, you will know why I am delaying.”
In his past interview Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua went on record saying all those involved will be dealt with should they form the government and that it would not be business as usual.
“We will not go after individuals. We will go after all those in state capture and conflict of interest,” Gachagua said.
When asked on whom the targeted individuals were the then Mathira MP said it was people in power who have used or are using their offices to use up public resources to their advantage.
