Final salute: Starehe Boys escort Magoha's body home for burial

Africa-Press – Kenya. Starehe Boys Centre has played a significant role in the send-off of one of their own, former Education Cabinet Secretary George Albert Magoha. On Friday, the school band led the procession to St. Mary’s School after Magoha’s body arrived in Yala.

The boys dressed in their blue shorts, red shirts and black half sweater carried their musical instruments playing hymns as Magoha’s body arrived in Yala.

Sixty-five years ago, Magoha joined Starehe Boys Centre for his O-Level education. The late CS publicly said that he owed his discipline to the learning institution.

“The discipline that was there is the reason why I am who I am today,” Magoha once said.

To grant Magoha the same respect he gave Starehe, his body on Thursday passed through the school’s gates one final time. Magoha died on January 24, aged 71 after suffering a cardiac arrest. He had a long and illustrious career in medicine, academia and public service. Magoha will be buried on Saturday in Umiru, Nyamininia subcounty.
