Africa-Press – Kenya. Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has said waded into the ongoing discussion on Azimio ‘rebels’ working with the Kenya Kwanza government. Speaking on Monday, the Senator said that President William Ruto cannot unite the country by ‘buying’ the opposition.

“One of the biggest roles of the President is to ensure that he has a peaceful and united nation. That cannot happen through buying MPs to acquire the majority,” Maanzo said.

President Ruto has told off critics over his decision to meet with leaders outside government. Ruto has publicly said his government is ready to work with anyone despite the political divide.

He has already met with some Nyanza MPs and Jubilee leaders from the Azimio la Umoja One coalition. The move is seen as part of the President’s strategy to counter opposition chief Raila Odinga who is holding ‘anti -Ruto’ rallies.

Over the weekend, ODM leaders called for expulsion of the leders who met with Ruto. ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya asked for permission from Raila to deal with the rebels. Oparanya noted that what the legislators did was an insult to the voters who voted for them under ODM ticket.
