Africa-Press – Kenya. Lawyer Miguna Miguna has asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to summon Azimio leader Raila Odinga over the alleged raid at former interior CS Fred Matiang’i.
This comes after the DCI summoned Matiang’i’s lawyer Danstan Omari to appear at DCI headquarters Wednesday morning. In a statement, Miguna said the failure of DCI to summon Raila will make Kenyans assume they fear him.
“Summon Raila Odinga, too, otherwise Kenyans will believe that you fear him and that there are two (in)justices for Kenyans: one for plutocrats and the other for ordinary citizens!” He said.
Lawyer Omari was vocal about an alleged raid at Matiang’i’s Karen home early this month. Omari said the former CS had summoned his lawyers and they rushed there to witness what was happening.
“I can confirm to every Kenyan in this country that the life of Matiang’i is at risk. We don’t know the intention of wanting to invade Matiang’i’s home at this time of the night. We don’t know why they want to arrest him and where they want to take him,” he claimed.
Raila was among those who rushed to the home on hearing about the raid. He termed the alleged raid as completely unacceptable. “There is no reason why police should be coming to somebody’s home at this hour of the night. If Matiang’i has committed a crime warranting his arrest that should be made public and known to him and he can present himself for interrogation,” Raila said. However, police and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission detectives denied involvement in the alleged raid.
