Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has said at least 70 per cent of Kenyans are using firewood to prepare meals for their families.
Speaking during the launch of Taifa Gas in Dongo Kundu, Mombasa County, Ruto said the use of firewood has deteriorated the health of individuals in the country.
“Greener cooking energy is better, our electric power grid is 92% green and we are committed to turning it 100% green by 2030,” he said.
To achieve 100 per cent elimination of cooking with firewood, Ruto said the ministry in charge to ensure all the illegal filing of gas in the country is done away with, as it is dangerous.
The president further stated that in the next three years, every household in the country will have subsidised cooking gas.
“Within the next three years every household in the country will have a gas cylinder and we will ensure the price of gas is reduced because we will also do away with the deductions on gas,” Ruto said.
He instructed the Energy CS Davies Chirchir to work to ensure the plan is actualised.
“Minister, you have the marching orders, and you know what you must do so that in three years every household in Kenya has a subsidised cooking gas,” Ruto said.
