Africa-Press – Kenya. Ex-Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday stepped in to help a needy girl whose dream for secondary education at State House girls had been jolted.

The governor surprised the 14-year-old after he accepted her appeal for financial assistance to pursue her secondary education.

Margaret Koki from Ekalakala, Matuu in Machakos county, had been selected to join State House Girls but failed to report on February 6, 2023.

Her single mother failed to raise the required school fees for her admission.

Koki scored 372 marks in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams at Ikombe Primary School.

On Tuesday, Sonko came to her aid, after she pleaded for help by posting a video on social media.

“Mike Sonko please help me secure my Form 1 admission at State House Girls. I was supposed to report latest on Monday 6, 2023, but my mother cannot afford the school fees and purchase of books, bedding and other requirements needed for admission,” she pleaded in the video.

Sonko later posted on his Facebook page that he had met the girl and her mother and later took them for shopping before being admitted to State House Girls.

Her mother, Caroline Nthenya, 38, thanked Sonko for the generous gesture.

“This is a miracle to me because I had given up on her joining State House Girls. She has promised to work hard in school and she’s aiming to be a pilot after her studies,” Nthenya said.

In 2014, Sonko adopted baby Satrine Osinya and his brother Gift after their mother was killed in the 2014 Likoni terror attack in Mombasa.
