Africa-Press – Kenya. Five people, among them a Maranda High school student, were killed Saturday evening in a gory accident on Keroka – Kisii highway. Police officers said the matatu the deceased were travelling in collided head-on with a lorry killing them on the spot.
The Matatu was travelling from Kisii to Keroka while the lorry was heading to Kisii. The accident occurred in the Amabuko area, a notorious black pot.
Masaba North Sub-county Police Commander Robert Ndambiri said the matatu driver was swerving off to avoid hitting a bodaboda rider when the vehicle collided with the lorry.
Amabuko is a kilometer from Keroka town. “By today morning, only five people were confirmed dead so far. They consist of two adults and three minors,” said Ndambiri.
Several other passengers are still nursing injuries in various health facilities in Kisii. The Sub-County police boss urged motorists to exercise caution on roads following heavy rains pounding the region.
