Africa-Press – Kenya. National Cereals and Produce Board teams have started training ahead of next month’s Kenya Handball Federation Super Cup. Coach Bryan Mathews said his charges will be ready for the tournament whose winners in both categories will represent Kenya in the Africa show in Tunisia.
“We are training for the tournament. Both men and women teams are working hard to ensure they get the best results.” Offered the tactician. He added, “We appreciate what all our opponents bring to the tournament. We look forward to having highly competitive matches.”
The two-week show that throws off May 13 at the Nyayo National Stadium will bring together six top men’s teams and four leading women’s sides. NCPB, who won the men’s league title are in Group ‘A’ alongside, General Service Unit (third) and fifth-placed Black Mamba.
League runners-up Ulinzi will face off against Strathmore University who finished fourth and Kenyatta University who were sixth in Pool. Women champions Nairobi Water Queens, who won the crown without losing a single game, remain very much the team to beat in that category.
Coach Jack Ochieng’s side will face off against runner-up Ulinzi Sharks, who are equally no pushovers. The other top two sides number are NCPB, who were placed third and Bungoma-based Rangers, who finished fourth. Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) said the teams will get a few weeks break before returning to the courts for the start of the 2023 season.
