Africa-Press – Kenya. University of Nairobi head coach Clayson Luvanda says lack of clinical finishing was their undoing after a 0-0 draw with Kenyatta University in a Kenya Hockey Union women’s Premier League match over the weekend.
The draw leaves UoN bottom of the table after a three-match winless start to the new season. “The team has improved defensively and that is something we want to keep doing. But we need to polish our attack. It needs to be clinical if we are to win games,” said Luvanda.
“We wanted to win the game and keep a clean sheet. We got the clean sheet but not the win. We will take that as a positive for now. We are glad to have taken at least one point home.”
UoN’s poor start to the season took a turn for the worst after four of their key players sustained knocks against KU and are doubtful for their next match against Blazers at City Park Stadium this weekend. Meanwhile, Kenyatta University head coach Richard Wandera applauded his team for dominating the game saying an improvement was noted.
Wandera said: “It was a good game. KU dominated most of the proceedings. There was great Improvement in the overall performance in comparison to our previous matches. Our aim is to keep improving and I am happy with the team’s progress.”
He also regretted poor finishing. “We had so many clear-cut chances but failed to score. We will continue working on our weaknesses with more focus on scoring. I expect a better performance in our next match.” KU are without a win in the two matches played so far. They face Lakers at City Park this weekend.
